Why is the club building a new stadium?
Since its first season at Cass Tech High School in 2012, Detroit City FC has drawn one of the most passionate fan bases in U.S. soccer. The electric atmosphere at matches has inspired countless men’s and women’s players and has become a must-see experience for sports fans in and around Detroit.
After several seasons of selling out and turning fans away at the 3,000-seat Cass Tech stadium, the club relocated to Hamtramck, making the 7,000-seat Keyworth Stadium its home. By the time AlumniFi Field opens in 2028, Detroit City FC will have spent 12 seasons at Keyworth.
The club’s move to AlumniFi Field represents the next step in its growth. It will provide Detroit City FC with a long-term home and give fans the opportunity to enjoy a world-class soccer venue right in their community.
Is AlumniFi Field privately funded, or does it use public funds?
Construction of AlumniFi Field will be financed through private investment, making it Michigan's only privately owned and privately financed major professional sports stadium.
Where will AlumniFi Field be located?
AlumniFi Field is being constructed on the site of the former Southwest Detroit Hospital at the corner of Michigan Avenue and 20th Street in Detroit. The site for the new stadium bridges the historic neighborhoods of Corktown and Mexicantown and is around 7 miles away from DCFC’s current Keyworth Stadium home in Hamtramck. It will be visible from the I-96/I-75 interchange.
Why is it called AlumniFi Field?
AlumniFi, a digital-first financial brand of MSU Federal Credit Union (MSUFCU), secured the stadium naming rights for the next 10 years. AlumniFi also serves as DCFC’s exclusive financial partner and front-of-kit sponsor.
What will be the capacity of AlumniFi Field?
The capacity will be approximately 15,000 for DCFC matches, more than double that of the team’s current home at Keyworth Stadium.
Will AlumniFi Field be soccer-specific or multipurpose?
While AlumniFi Field is first and foremost a soccer stadium, there will be an opportunity to host other events year-round, such as outdoor concerts, large conferences and community events.
When will construction officially begin?
Construction is currently underway.
When will AlumniFi Field open?
AlumniFi Field is expected to open for the 2028 USL Championship season.
How will I get to AlumniFi Field?
We’re planning for various convenient parking solutions, all located within a 0.75-mile radius of the stadium. Designated rideshare zones and bike storage will also be available to make getting to matches as easy as possible.
To minimize impact on nearby neighborhoods, we’ll encourage all guests to use official parking areas and avoid residential streets. As we approach opening, we’ll share additional details, including maps, pricing and transit options.
How will the stadium benefit the city of Detroit?
AlumniFi Field will serve as a catalyst for local investment and job creation. The development is projected to create hundreds of construction jobs during the build process. Once complete, the stadium is projected to generate direct and indirect employment opportunities; revitalize a long-vacant site; incentivize significant economic activity in southwest Detroit and adjacent districts; and catalyze new retail activity, small-business growth and hospitality services supporting neighborhood vitality.
How can fans stay up to date with AlumniFi Field’s progress?
What will happen to Keyworth Stadium?
Detroit City FC is a tenant at Keyworth Stadium, and Hamtramck Public Schools will continue to operate the facility. After the move to AlumniFi Field, Detroit City FC will remain committed to fostering the bonds forged with the local businesses, individuals and soccer supporters in the Hamtramck area.
What will happen to Detroit City Fieldhouse?
Detroit City Fieldhouse and City Clubhouse will remain an integral part of the club and will continue to serve the players, staff, recreation participants and soccer-bar attendees who have come to know and love the space.
